Fresh looks for a non-profit organization

Intro

The Malaysian Association of Canada (MAC) is a non-profit organization that brings together Malaysians, Malaysian residents in Canada and Canadians through educational, social, cultural and economic activities. The association organizes events such as the Summer Picnic, festival functions and informal gatherings for its members.

Problem

The organization needed new branding and a website to attract new and younger members. The website was outdated, desktop-only, and hard to update and maintain.

Solution

Hibiscus is the Malaysian national flower, so we used a simplified version for a logo mark. For the type portion of the logo, we picked a handwritten typeface which portrays an informal and friendly image of the association. The same typeface was used for the website’s headlines. Overall branding colours and illustrations elicit fresh and youthful looks to represent the Malaysians’ joyful and welcoming culture. In their words: “We offer a place for fellow Malaysians and friends in the Greater Toronto Area to meet and “cakap, cakap” (chat) about old times and get together to “makan” (eat) all the delicious Malaysian food that we miss so much!”

Upon the website launch, the MAC’s communications team created relevant content for the website (such as live speakers series and various cultural events), which was shared over social media channels. As a result, the website saw a 2-3x increase in traffic and inquiries during the months when online events were held.
